The model solves the transport equation twice (for hydrocarbon and oxygen) using the method of characteristics and computes two plumes at each time step which are then combined using superposition. Four sources of oxygen are provided: through injection wells, initial dissolved oxygen in the uncontaminated aquifer, natural recharge of oxygen across the boundaries, and vertical exchange of oxygen from the unsaturated zone (reaeration).
