ChemPath - 3D Solute Transport Model

Compliance Modeling - Groundwater Remediation

  • ChemPath has an innovative technique for three-dimensional solute transport which is mathematically accurate with no numerical dispersion or unstable solution. This technique can be utilized for a number of solute transport situations such as:
    • Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR)
    • Groundwater Remediation
    • Well Head Protection
    • Compliance Modeling

  • Particle tracking converts a three-dimensional space into a set of pathlines (which are one-dimensional in terms of curvilinear distance along the path). ChemPath then solves the solute transport along the path of solute particles. The paths intersecting a control surface, e.g., a well, stream, or property boundary, are integrated to produce the concentration history at the control surface.
  • ChemPath is capable of including complex chemical reactions, e.g., Zero and First order decay; Linear, Langmuir and Freundlich; equilibrium and kinetic, and two-site sorption.
  • ChemPath handles time-variant and constant boundary conditions.
  • ChemPath handles uniform and non-uniform initial conditions for each layer.

ChemPath - The Preprocessor

  • ChemPath uses a state-of-the-art, easy-to-use concept of Input Wizards. Input Wizards guide you through the process of defining the input. Press Next and Previous buttons to move around.
  • Context-sensitive help is available with ChemPath at the touch of a button [F1]. ChemPath has comprehensive on-line help so you never have to search for a printed manual again!
  • ChemPath imports output of PATH3D, MODPATH, Micro-Fem, and FLOWPATH without any changes! Or create your own generic path lines.
  • Define initial conditions graphically. Simply drag the mouse to define the regions of Dissolved and Sorbed concentration for up to 10 layers. All this while you are looking at path lines in the same picture. These regions are color-coded for Dissolved or Sorbed Concentration.

ChemPath Input Diagnosis

  • See the Boundary Conditions graphically–both Steady State as well as Transient.
  • ChemPath warns you if you have not defined Boundary Conditions properly.

ChemPath - The Postprocessor

  • ChemPath lets you see the output in several different ways—
    • Dissolved and Sorbed Concentration in an X-Y plane along the pathlines.
Dissolved and Sorbed Concentration versus Distance or Travel Time along a pathline.
Travel Time versus Distance along a pathline.
  • Create above plots at different time steps.
  • You can choose up to 10 concentration value ranges and colors to use with those ranges.
  • Print on any Windows-compatible printer to produce a full-color or B&W presentation.
  • ChemPath lets you export the output in SURFER and DXF format.
  • Display grid of any size and color. Or no grid at all!
  • Resize the output screen and ChemPath automatically re-adjusts the size of the plot.
